This year has been one of the best for horror genre fans. We have seen and played massive titles like Resident Evil Requiem, Directive 8020, and many others. And it doesn’t just end there, as we have an exciting slate of horror games coming up in September.
One thing I particularly enjoyed throughout this year was watching events like Summer Game Fest, State of Play, and others. While they used to be a bit boring from a horror gaming perspective, this year was fascinating, with multiple horror games getting new announcements, release dates, trailers, and more.
Finally, later this month, we have Gamescom, which is shaping up as another major event for the horror game genre. Many notable titles were confirmed for the show. Let’s take a look at what to expect from Gamescom 2026.
Silent Hill: Townfall and Castlevania Lead Konami’s Gamescom Lineup
Of course, one of the most anticipated titles of the year is Silent Hill: Townfall, which is finally coming out next month. However, Konami has already confirmed that the title will be present at this year’s Gamescom, where it will receive a new trailer during the event’s opening night.
It’s not just the trailer, either, as the team also plans to have a terrifying booth to attract fans. Alongside Silent Hill: Townfall, Konami has confirmed the very first hands-on experience for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse at the show. The title is set to come out later this year in October.
Konami has a great lineup for this year’s Gamescom, and with both titles launching later this year, the event gives the publisher another opportunity to build anticipation and introduce these titles to new audiences.
Alien: Isolation 2 Brings Survival Horror Back to Gamescom
Now, let’s talk about the title I’m most excited for at Gamescom, Alien: Isolation 2. Though the title was first announced in 2024, it was nowhere to be seen for the next two years until Sega decided to shadow-drop a tease earlier this year, with the title finally making its debut trailer at Summer Game Fest.
Finally, Sega has confirmed that Alien: Isolation 2 will be present at the show. Not only will fans have photo opportunities, on-stand challenges, and merch giveaways, but they will also get a hands-on experience with Alien: Isolation 2 at Gamescom 2026.
Though the title has no release date at the moment and the developers have already hinted they have no plans to share one anytime soon, it’s still an exciting time, as we are finally going to learn more about the title we have all been waiting for for years.
Gamescom 2026 Has Plenty More Horror in Store
When I say this year has been one of the very best for horror genre fans, I truly mean it, as we have many more games coming to Gamescom 2026. One indie title is Silver Pines, a survival-horror Metroidvania set in small-town America. Team17 has confirmed that the title will be present at the event.
Bloober Team has also confirmed that the story DLC Cronos: Lazarus for Cronos: The New Dawn will be present at Gamescom. Fans will be able to meet the team, take pictures, and get a sneak peek at what they’ve been cooking up for the Cronos story DLC.
The recently announced SAW: Genesis will also be present at the show, as confirmed by developer Broken Mirror Games. Other titles like EONA and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will also be present and playable at the event, making Gamescom practically heaven for horror gaming fans.
The Future Looks Bright for Horror Games
Honestly, while writing this article, I could feel the good days coming back, with plenty of great horror games and franchises like Silent Hill and Resident Evil releasing new titles. With AA and indie studios also pushing the boundaries of the genre, it has been amazing to experience all of this as a horror fan.
We already have so many amazing titles coming later this year, but even bigger games like Alien: Isolation 2 and Resident Evil Veronica are confirmed for next year.
