‘State of Decay 3’ Remains on Track for 2027 as Undead Labs Goes Independent

State of Decay 3

The development of State of Decay 3 has seen a rollercoaster ride over the years. Just when we saw the first gameplay trailer for the title earlier in June, it was soon reported that Undead Labs was looking for a buyer amid closure fears.

While the team later confirmed that State of Decay 3 is still in development following the Xbox transition, the studio has now revealed that it has gone independent. In an official blog post, Undead Labs studio head Philip Holt said going independent brings them closer to their audience.

Holt then stated:

Independence brings us closer to our community and lets us focus on what matters most: making the best games we can and earning the continued support of the people who choose to spend their time with us.

Holt also confirmed that development of State of Decay 3 is going well, with the team currently in the alpha phase and continuing toward its previously announced goal of entering a closed beta before the end of 2026.

Talking about the release date of the title, Holt said:

State of Decay 3 remains targeted for release in 2027 on Xbox, Game Pass, PC, and PlayStation.

Although Undead Labs has revealed little so far, fans can expect more in the coming months, as the studio says it will share additional details about its future plans later.
