Just last month, State of Decay 3 was finally revealed to fans during the Xbox Showcase after years of suspense. Just when fans of the franchise had something to look forward to, Xbox revealed another surprise.
Soon after the Xbox Showcase, Asha Sharma, Xbox CEO, confirmed that Microsoft is in the process of resetting its business, a move leading to the closure of multiple studios and leaving many developers without jobs. Following that announcement, Bloomberg released a report naming Compulsion Games, Double Fine, and Ninja Theory being among the studios at risk.
Now, the latest report from GamesBeat names State of Decay 3 developer Undead Labs as a fourth studio currently at risk. According to the report, the studio is already looking for a buyer, as around 110 jobs are on the line if it fails to find one.
GamesBeat sources also claim this will be Xbox’s largest single round of cuts, with Blizzard and Bethesda expected to face layoffs as well. While the future of Undead Labs remains uncertain, we hope the Seattle-based studio finds a buyer so we can finally get the game we’ve waited years for.
