Ever since its first announcement back in 2020, the public rollout for State of Decay 3 has been a rollercoaster ride. While the developers, Undead Labs, revealed new trailers in between, we never really got any gameplay footage over the past half-decade. Finally, after confirming earlier this year that the title is still in active development, the developers have released the very first gameplay trailer for the open-world survival game.
During the recent Xbox Showcase, we saw the very first gameplay trailer for the title, and it looks amazing. The zombie apocalypse nearly wiped out humankind, and years after the initial outbreak, players have to carve out a life for themselves. Players will take control of a community of survivors, build settlements with friends, and destroy zombies in State of Decay 3.
The developers have also confirmed that players’ choices will matter a lot in the title. It’s the player’s story, and they will have to make tough choices about where to live, what to build, and who to bring into their community. Permadeath is an ever-present danger, and every risk must be weighed against the reward.
Talking about the map of State of Decay 3, Creative Director Kevin Patzelt stated that it will be much bigger than everything in the last release. The playable space is about four times the size of the previous entry, and it will be fully open to players from the start of the game.
The team has also announced a playtest for the title, and players interested in trying the game early can sign up via the State of Decay 3 Playtest website. Although we don’t yet have an exact release date, Undead Labs plans to release State of Decay 3 next year on Xbox, PS5, and PC.
You can watch the full gameplay trailer below and wishlist the title on Steam.
