During the recent Summer Game Fest, we saw many great horror game announcements, including Alien: Isolation 2, Resident Evil: Veronica, and 1666: Amsterdam. Another surprising entry was SAW: Genesis, which will also have early access soon.
The title is being published by Bloober Team and developed by Broken Mirror Games in partnership with Anshar Studios. SAW: Genesis has been announced as a new 3v1 multiplayer horror game set in a dark, broken post–World War I world, where cities are ruined, unsafe, and trust in humanity is very low.
The game will offer two roles. Players can either play as one of the three Accused, who will be trying to escape the Judge’s deadly trials by solving puzzles and surviving, or they can play as the Judge, who will be trying to stop them using mind games and Saw-style traps.
SAW: Genesis is all about making the right choices, as they will have consequences. If you are playing as accused and get caught in a trap, you will either have to give up a body part to escape or wait for your teammates to rescue you in time. However, these choices have permanent consequences for the match. For example, damaging your arm will make it even harder to complete puzzles and fight back. When playing as the Judge, players can build their strategy around the character’s distinct advantages, such as:
- Exclusive access to hidden corridors and a noise-detection map
- Hallucinogenic gas and paralyzing toxins that distract and immobilize the Accused
- An Accomplice that can be summoned to drag the Accused into Rehabilitation Traps
