Wolfenstein: The Old Blood aiming for pulp B-movie tone; has Nazi zombies

Wolfestein: The Old Blood, the standalone prequel to the amazing Wolfenstein: The New Order by Machine Games, is aiming for a different tone that its predecessor title, according to Bethesda. “It works well with the pulp B-movie thing we’re going for,” said Executive Producer Jerk Gustafsson. And based on what the team is going for, I can’t say that I’m bothered at all.

Set in the 1940s and taking place in the series’ namesake castle, The Old Blood may have been built on the foundations of The New Order, but according to the publisher, the game’s content is almost entirely new, with new weapons, environments, assets, and enemies to be expected. Stealth returns but in a more brutal fashion, arming players with a metal pipe that dishes out gory takedowns.

Last but not least, it looks like we’ll definitely be seeing Nazi zombies return to the series with The Old Blood. Bethesda has confirmed that the antisemitic undead will be pose a familiar but different type of threat for old-school Wolfenstein players.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will be available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on May 5th in North America.
