The Silent Hill franchise has seen one of the biggest comebacks in the gaming industry. After being one of the biggest survival horror franchises before going without a major release for years, and even seeing a major project get cancelled, the series has made a strong return with three consecutive releases that have received praise from fans and critics alike.
Konami announced three major projects during the Silent Hill Transmission in October 2022. Now, with all three titles, including the Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall, released, alongside the free Silent Hill: The Short Message, series producer Motoi Okamoto is already looking ahead to the second and third waves of Silent Hill games.
In a recent interview published in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Issue 1965, and translated by Game Observer, Okamoto discussed the franchise’s recent releases and their positive reception.
Okamoto stated:
All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we’re relieved (laughs). They’ve also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it.
Okamoto added that Konami doesn’t see the success of these releases as the finish line. Although he didn’t share any specific details about future projects, he confirmed that the company is only getting started, stating:
Successfully launching this ‘first wave’ comes with great relief, but we’re not stopping here; we must think of the second and third waves.
Okamoto also discussed how he had to convince Konami’s higher-ups to approve three titles in the franchise. He acknowledged that it wasn’t an easy task but believed the move was important for the franchise’s revival and for rebuilding fans’ trust. Meanwhile, Bloober Team is currently working on a remake of the original Silent Hill.
