The level of excellence achieved by the Silent Hill 2 Remake, almost matching the original game, was affected by the visual problems found on PS5. More specifically, the PS5 Pro version had problems with PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling, which caused shimmering on several surfaces.
Time passed without any news about a fix for this issue, until now. Silent Hill 2 has received a new patch that fixes these problems, but it also brings another one with it: Bloober Team has unexpectedly released patch 1.007 for the remake.
It doesn’t add any new story content, but it does include several fixes, including:
- Improved some Lying Figure animations to prevent clipping when passing through windows
- Fixed potential crash related to missing DirectX libraries
- Additional fixes for the rotating cube in the Labyrinth
- Some minor AI fixes
Considering the previous patch arrived two years ago, this update is certainly welcome. But how does it perform on Sony’s console?

In Quality mode, it is all good news. The shimmering problems are gone, the game takes advantage of the new PSSR 2, and the visual quality looks impressive. Performance mode, however, is a different story.
It looks better, but introduces a new problem: black crush, and it is very noticeable. This problem causes black tones to become so saturated that details in the shadows are lost. As you can see above, a large patch of black covers the vegetation and other areas, hiding many of the details.
Bloober Team is aware of the issue, and said on Twitter that they are looking into potential solutions. As more info becomes available we’ll make sure to let you know here at Rely on Horror.
