Resident Evil 7: Meet The Family In An Extended Dinner Photo, Plus Maybe Demo Exclusivity ending?

Boy, the news just doesn’t stop, does it?

Yesterday we got our first look at the Resident Evil VII family actually together, sitting at that grody dinner table we’ve seen previously in the Desolation trailer and in the Photogrametry presentation. We only really got a good look at the main three, Jack, Marguerite and what the fanbase (and myself) are for the moment assuming to be Lucas. There was a mysterious hand in the corner, and we could see past the family into a kitchen beyond.

Well today we’re getting a wider shot of this same seen, complete with three new figures to speculate on.

First thing’s first- that’s totally Andre to our right. He couldn’t be seen at all in the previous image, but apparently he’s up for some intestine stew at the dinner table as well. He’s looking pretty good considering the last time we saw him (in the Beginning Hour demo) he had a pipe shoved through his face. This has me curious as to whether Andre is still alive (but with a royally messed up mouth), dead (and just propped up at the dinner table), or if perhaps he’s become infected and is now undead. Or whatever this game’s version of that is. Either way, his arms seem to be tied behind him, which could be evidence of all three. Alive? They don’t want him fighting back, even in his weakened state. Dead? Could be so he doesn’t just tip forward and faceplant into the food. Shame to ruin some good human haggis. Or, if he’s been recently turned, he might not be easily controlled, and could just go berserk on all of them.

The next new member was someone we spied the hand of last time, a very dead looking person in a white bath robe and red scarf. We can just barely make out that they’re sitting in a wheelchair, and inspection between the two images would reveal that they are the wheelchair bound person we saw previously in the Desolation trailer. Considering their condition here, it makes me wonder how they get so much… well, get up and go for the footage we see in the trailer. It’s making me think that perhaps, whatever it is that the family is up to here, has to do with getting some new life into grandpa here. It’s hard to tell if it’s a man or a woman (although a rumor has pointed to it being a woman named Camille), but either way, they’re creepy and old. No sir, I don’t like it.

Next up we have our final new face (well, “face” is a bit of a stretch) watching us from behind Andre. While a lot of fans are assuming it’s the girl from the game’s cover art, there’s honestly no way of telling for sure. It’s just a black, person shape. It could also be the freaky lady who murdered the shit out of Pete (the weekend sub) in Kitchen, or someone else entirely. Could be the ghost girl, who shows up 7 times during the VHS section of the Beginning Hour demo. Who knows? All we can say for sure is that we’re being watched. Something I find even creepier is the idea that all of us are being watched, not just the player character (who, considering Andre’s presence, I’m going to assume is Clancy the camera guy), but the entire group at the table. Jack, Marguerite, Lucas, Hotwheels there, and Andre. That there’s a third party who’s just observing everything. That even these freaks aren’t in control. It remains to be seen.

Something I also want to point out, which I failed to in the previous post, is the condition of the Family Man. Jack Baker has been the bane of any Beginning Hour player’s time with the demo, especially while trying to figure out if there’s more secrets to the upstairs telephone room. We’ve all gotten Family’d about a billion times, so we’re very well acquainted with not just this dude’s fist, but also his freaky mug. He’s a nasty, peeling looking guy.

Well, on the flip side of that coin, let’s take a look at him as he appears in today (and yesterdays) image.

Looking much, much better.

In fact, I’d say that this gives almost 100% confirmation to that set of leaked PS4 Pro RE7 screens from the other day, that showed Jack flambe. Considering the three states we see this guy in (Uncooked, flash fried, and extra crispy), I’d say that we have a pretty good idea of what happens to him, and when. The Sewer Gators investigation of the Baker home in Dulvey, Lousiana, was conducted months before whoever we’re playing as for the majority of the Beginning Hour demo. After Andre is piped, and Pete is killed, Clancy is forced to sit in on this family dinner. At some point, he’s going to get the chance to escape.

Reddit user Nyswo has actually pieced together a pretty convincing timeline of how all this goes down, taking from the E3 trailer and the leaked screens, showing that (what I’m assuming is Clancy) manages to steal that white car we’ve seen a few times (which now seems like it could very likely belong to Lucas, who’s the only hooded figure we’ve seen outside of the Desolation trailer), but gets got by Jack Baker just as he’s trying to pull out of their garage, crashing the car. This crash starts a fire, setting the Family Man ablaze. You can check out his findings here. It’s after this that the character from Beginning Hour is taken into the home, and welcomed to the Family proper by the now much more messed up looking Family Man, post fire. It’s also worth noting that the scene with the police officer must take place between Clancy getting away from the dinner table, and the car being crashed, since we can see the garage un-burned, and the white car parked. I’m guessing that cop doesn’t make it out of there.

I think we’re getting a pretty good picture of how these events play out, possibly during a new and updated demo. Speaking of which, another reddit user, MarbleGoat (much less scary than a Marble Hornet) noticed that we may be indeed getting either an extension to the demo, a new demo, or maybe the demo becoming non-PS Plus exclusive. After deleting the demo to free up some data on his console, he noticed that the description had changed:

The 15th is tomorrow, although it’s still two days before Capcom’s official Resident Evil 7 presentation at TGS. Hopefully we’ll be able to find out for sure soon enough. It’d be great if, at the very least, this means that other platforms will finally have the chance to try the demo (extended or not) themselves. I have a PS4, but I know that I’d be agonizing over not having access to it if I didn’t. I guess we just have to wait.
