Over the years, many iconic franchises have become online multiplayer games, and the most recent example is Halloween: The Game, released earlier today.
Last week, around 12 TB of Steam data leaked, revealing countless unannounced and canceled games in development from 2003 to 2013. One such title was an unannounced Scream game that was in development around 2011 but never saw the light of day. An X (formerly Twitter) user, Roly Poly Reaper, shared footage and clips of the title on their account.
According to the leaks, the Scream game was in development by Fatshark, the developers behind Warhammer: Vermintide and Warhammer 40K: Darktide. The leaked footage gives us an early look at what the canceled title was supposed to be.
The gameplay of the title was pretty simple. Players take on the roles of survivors trying to escape Ghostface, while one player plays as Ghostface. The user found six builds of the title in the recent leak but shared clips from the earliest one.
Although there is no clear reason for the cancellation, the X user believes the game was built only as a pitch to secure the license for the franchise. The final build of the game was dated February 2011, just two months before Scream 4’s release. It seems that the pitch was never approved, leading to the whole project being scrapped.
