New Trailer for Lovecraftian ‘Conarium’ Drops Ahead of Console Release

Conarium debuts a new console trailer ahead of its February 2019 launch date for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 — the game is currently available via Steam. The developers at Zoetrope Interactive promise a gripping Lovecraftian experience wherein four scientists “challenge what we normally consider to be the ‘absolute’ limits of nature.” Well, that doesn’t sound foreboding at all.

The trailer looks absolutely stunning, especially in 4K. There’s so much detail and color utilized throughout, that it’s simply a feast for the eyes. With a setting in the Antarctic akin to The Thing, the game is situating itself apart from other games that have been on land or at sea. It remains to be seen if the game maximizes its chilly 4K visuals to its fullest potential. The trailer further utilizes the camera to infuse a greater sense of unease and gradually ratchets up the tension as it comes to a dizzying close.

Developers at Zoetrope Interactive promise key features including multiple endings, a haunting atmospheric soundtrack, and beautiful homages to H.P. Lovecraft with graphics created using the Unreal 4 engine. Largely set in the aftermath of Lovecraft’s novella At the Mountains of Madness, Conarium promises to be another welcome addition to the sci-fi horror genre for console owners. We gave it pretty high marks in our PC version review.

The horror genre’s deep fascination with the world of Lovecraft continues and this game is obviously no exception. Maybe the trend will taper off this year because 2018 was rife with one Lovecraftian adventure, walking-simulator, shooter, or RPG after another.
