Dead Space 3 to have Kinect support

EA has today announced that the upcoming Dead Space 3 will feature Kinect support in the vein of Mass Effect 3. Voice commands will be added to the game for both single player co-op actions such as gifting ammo or health. This announcement was very unexpected since Visceral Games has always seemed to favor the PS3 when it came to bonus content or features.

“The voice commands in Dead Space 3 give players a unique way to take down the terror, whether they choose to face the Necromorphs alone in single-player, or alongside a friend with drop-in / drop-out co-op,” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer on Dead Space 3.

I’m honestly not sure how useful this ability will be. Voice commands never seem to be the quicker, more tactile method of playing a game when compared with the ease of pressing a button. It didn’t make much sense in Halo Anniversary, and I don’t see it being anything other than a “you can do this too” feature that will ignored by many. But, when in Rome space, right?

All I want to know is if I can use a Kinect to curse at my own delusions. Man, wouldn’t that iconic line from Dead Space 2‘s last boss fight have been awesome if the player had to say it?!

Visceral has also released a new trailer today, check it out below.
