Alice: Madness Returns Hands-On Video Preview

Alice: Madness Returns’ release is right around the corner now, to release on the PS3, 360, and PC in America on June 14th, and in Europe on June 16th. As such, more previews, impressions, and (soon) reviews will start popping up. We’ll have our own review of Alice’s peculiar adventure up later this month, but for now we have some impressions and details from former television show and source of many pre-release video game video previews, PlayerBitz aka PlayR. The video shows off some minor spoilers of the first world (there’s supposed to be a total of 6 worlds in all), so if you want to go spoiler-free this video does reveal some early plot details, enemies, and the like.

We get to see the inner-workings of the first world, which has several throwbacks to the first game and Alice’s classic blue costume (each world is to have a different costume for Alice, as well as completely different enemies). Players start off in a surreal forest named, “The Vale of Tears,” which is a Christian phrase about earthly life and it’s sorrows but an alternative way to say this would be, “The Valley of Tears.” It’s called this because of these strange mountains that resemble Alice that have tears rolling down her face to form waterfalls, one of the surreal details that make the place so dauntingly beautiful yet surreal and a great note to start the game on. However, through the first world you’ll transition from this forest to a wasteland valley, and ultimately to the Hatter’s factory just breaming with molten… Tea, we would assume. However, it seems the Hatter is no longer in control of his domain like he was in the first game, but rather the former prisoners, Dormouse and March Hare, who seems to have gone a bit… Mad, for lack of a better term.
