E3 2021: Inside Co-creator’s Next Game is Somerville

Somerville

Somerville, the first project of Playdead co-founder Dino Patti’s new UK-based studio JumpShip, was announced during Microsoft’s E3 showcase with a new gameplay trailer. The brief but atmospheric teaser follows a family as they attempt to survive what looks to be a violent and destructive invasion by monolithic alien forces.

The trailer primarily shows the father of the family traversing various post-apocalyptic environments like a highway littered with abandoned cars, grassy farmlands, forests, mines, and underwater caves as he tries to keep his family safe.

Similar in tone and style to previous Playdead titles, like Limbo and Inside (which was Rely On Horror’s 2016 Game Of The Year), Somerville is a side-scrolling adventure game that looks to continue the minimalist gameplay approach to environmental exploration and storytelling its creators are known for.

In the wake of catastrophe, you must find the means to make your family whole again. Somerville is a Sci-Fi adventure grounded in the intimate repercussions of a large-scale conflict.

Immerse yourself in a hand-crafted narrative experience set across a vivid rural landscape. Navigate your way through the perilous terrain ahead of you to unravel the mysteries of Earth’s visitors.

Somerville will be available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2022. It will also be available on the Xbox Game Pass at launch. You can check out the Somerville E3 2021 Trailer below.
