Hideo Kojima’s Xbox Horror Game OD Is Reportedly Safe Despite Microsoft’s Cuts

O.D.

OD, the mysterious horror game by Hideo Kojima for Xbox, is reportedly safe from the big changes Microsoft is preparing for its video game division.

According to IGN, Kojima Productions’ project will move forward and will still be published by Xbox Game Studios. This comes even though Microsoft is reviewing its investments and has already canceled or left deals with other teams.

A recent example of that is IO Interactive. The studio recently confirmed that it ended its partnership with the company supporting Project Fantasy, its online fantasy RPG. Bloomberg later reported that said partner was Xbox. IO Interactive said losing Xbox’s support will have short-term effects, including “staffing decisions.”

Kojima Productions’ OD

Microsoft stated on Tuesday that it is reviewing where it invests so it can focus on its most important goals. However, the company denied that it will cut its total investment in video games.

In this situation, OD seems to be one of the projects Microsoft sees as important. The game was shown as a completely new experience and is being made with help from film director Jordan Peele. Its cast includes Hunter Schafer, Udo Kier, and Sophia Lillis, but Kojima Productions has not yet shown clearly how the game will play or confirmed a release date.

In a recent Entertainment Weekly report for Xbox’s 25th anniversary, the division’s new CEO, Asha Sharma, also spoke about Kojima’s project. Sharma said she wants to give the company’s creative people room to work and said OD represents “another kind of game” in the Xbox catalog.
