The Vanishing of Ethan Carter aims to impress you with GIFs

While some developers would rather showcase the graphic quality of their games through screenshots or a trailer, the folks behind The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will have none of that traditional hogwash. Developer of Ethan Carter, The Astronauts, have crafted assets set in between an image and a video. Three GIFs, yes GIFs, have been released by the studio behind this upcoming horror title. They may take a little while to load fully, but once they do, you’re probably going to think, “oh, that looks nice.”.

Each GIF shows off a little bit from the game’s environments; Photorealistic textures and some nice foliage are present. The second GIF reveals what an in-game reality shift will look like. As protagonist Paul Prospero uses his occult detective skills to uncover some new information from a corpse, the world takes on a blue hue and unlocks a memory that can be explored within the environment. This mechanic will be explored further, according to the developer. For now, just admire the visuals.
