Take a Very Short Stroll Through Stranger Things

Since Stranger Things hit Netflix, social media has been abuzz about the show reviving classic American horror. Set in the 1980s, Stranger Things embraces the lack of modern technology and creates a world you can truly get lost in. The show follows a ragtag team of kids searching for their lost friend without the help of GPS or cell phones to facilitate instant communication and tracking.

One of the best adult characters is the down on his luck sheriff, left gruff after the death of his daughter. He doesn’t believe in the supernatural, but he’s willing to do whatever it takes to bring a woman’s child back. His story and attitude are the basis for a short tribute to Stranger Things by three developers from Infamous Quests.

The low-fi graphics and point-and-click gameplay stay true to the retro horror theme, and the music is pulled directly from the show’s intro. The five-minute minigame is free on itch.io, done as a labor of love. They have versions available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, so computer players of all stripes can kick around the dangerous woods.

As far as anyone knows, there is no plan by the Duffer Brothers to create a full game for the show. Hopefully, with the amount of buzz around fan tributes and the gaming community, they will take an interest in the idea. There is definitely a place for Stranger Things with horror gaming fans.
