The first game in the iconic Silent Hill franchise launched over two decades ago in 1999. The title was released exclusively on consoles and, to this day, has never received an official PC release. However, YouTuber KushAstronaut has now brought Silent Hill to PC with a fully playable unofficial port.
KushAstronaut has also released a full video showcasing Silent Hill running on PC, confirming that players can enjoy the title without needing any emulators. The only catch is that you need an original copy of the game to run the PC port. While he admits the port still has a few bugs, he has been actively fixing them, and players can already experience the game from start to finish.
Speaking further about the project, KushAstronaut says it is AI-assisted and that he drew massive inspiration from Claude (Anthropic’s AI assistant) for coding, while focusing primarily on design, debugging, and guidance. Although he’s currently working on fixing the remaining glitches, he also plans to add more features to the project.
However, he won’t make any changes to the core gameplay, as he wants players to experience the original Silent Hill as intended. The project also supports high resolutions, high refresh rates, and uncapped FPS. The shared video shows that the combat seems good, and even many character animations appear to work perfectly.
