(UPDATE) Rumor: Don’t expect anymore Silent Hill console games from Konami
(Update 9/21) This should be taken with a grain of salt, I actually find this a little harder to believe than the original story, but according to Reddit user u/Complexorganisms, Konami has refuted the claims that it will be backing out of the AAA market. Apparently he reached out to Konami customer support for comment on the rumors, and was told that Konami is still committed (and apparently actively working on?) future instalments for console entries in the Silent Hill, Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid franchises. I’m not sure a member of Konami customer support would have the knowledge, or authority to reply so decisively, especially considering that Konami still has yet to respond to the original source of this article or make any official statements regarding this whatsoever. You can read the full response here, but I’d say for now, let’s just assume the worst.
The future definitely looks for very dark for fans of Konami franchises like Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and our beloved Silent Hill. Silent Hill fans have been through a lot, having to suffer through the painful cancellation of the Kojima/Del Toro-helmed Silent Hills after an excellent taste of the project with PT on PlayStation 4. Then, after all the controversy surrounding Hideo Kojima and his troubles with the company, things started to look even more dire for the future of the series.
Now, if this report holds true, I guess this is the final nail in the coffin…
French gaming site Gameblog has reported that Konami has ceased triple-A console production. Except for PES (Pro Evolution Soccer). Eurogamer was able to confirm this report as true, along with the one made prior about Konami’s worldwide technology director, Julien Merceron, leaving the company.
So, what’s next? If Konami is truly done developing console games then I really hope Silent Hill ends up being bought by Sony. I’m sorry but pachinko machines aren’t going to cut it.
What do you guys think?
