After years of anticipation and rumors, Resident Evil Veronica was announced earlier this month during the Summer Game Fest. While we have yet to receive an official release date, the title is set to launch in 2027.
The original Code Veronica game was released over twenty years ago, and since then, the Resident Evil franchise has undergone significant changes. As Capcom continues to release remakes while also developing new entries, the dev team plans to make adjustments to the story to better fit the series.
During a recent interview with Famitsu, Resident Evil Veronica producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi was asked whether the team plans to make changes to the story to strengthen the game’s connection to the overall narrative. Hirabayashi stated:
With Resident Evil Veronica, we plan to restructure the story so players can clearly see how all these titles fit into one cohesive series.
He further added that the remake will incorporate changes introduced in Resident Evil 2 Remake. Hirabayashi also explained that the development team is focused on putting players’ memories first during development, stating:
What’s most important for the development team at Capcom is putting the players’ memories first, and then rebuilding the game on top of that.
Hirabayashi has also confirmed that Resident Evil Veronica is being developed by the same team that previously worked on the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes. While more details about the remake are expected in the coming months, the team has already confirmed that it will feature a third-person perspective.
