Grim Guardians: Demon Purge – Dark Co-Op Metroidvania Gets Playable Demo Today

The upcoming title from Inti Creates (Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, Gunvolt series) titled Grim Guardians: Demon Purge has a demo set to release today as part of the Steam Next Fest. The demo will be available until February 13th, when the event ends. This all comes just a few weeks before the full release on February 23rd, so players can check out the gorgeous art and action for themselves.

Grim Guardians: Demon Purge features an art style that’s very reminiscent of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night specifically, despite being set in the universe of another Inti Creates series, Gal*Gun. While all the Gal*Gun games are light gun-style shooters, the two main characters in Grim Guardians hail from that world, though this one is a much darker and less light-hearted take on that universe, and there’s some surprise appearances by other characters from the series as well.

The game also features active switching between the two characters during gameplay. Both have very different abilities and play styles, and can be used to different advantages during certain battles or objectives. If you have a friend to join, you can also have a second player join and actively control the other character, marking a pretty unique feature among Metroidvania games in general.

The game is set to release digitally on February 23rd for PC, Xbox consoles, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Nintendo Switch, with preorders going live later this week on February 9th.

I got a chance to play the game for myself back at PAX West last year and it’s easily one of my most anticipated games this year based on what I played. I can’t wait to check out this demo and see how the game has progressed since then.

Check out the newest trailer below to see what it’s all about and stay tuned for the release later this month when we can review the full game.
