Gamescom 2014: Sony teasing game that will “reinvent” horror

Sony has released a new teaser for a horror game that aims to “reinvent” the horror genre. The latest teaser is one of three short clips, the most recent showing glass crack and a man with an axe being reflected within it. At the end of the teaser, the words “Horror Reinvented on PS4” appear. The hashtag “#PlayStationGC” is also appended.

There’s very little doubt that this teaser – which will be unveiled at Gamescom – isn’t for Until Dawn, the former PlayStation 3 Move title that disappeared for quite some time. Not too long ago, Sony’s Gamescom lineup leaked and Until Dawn was on the list. Plus, the original game was a take on the teen slasher genre, with teens being killed and tortured in a snowy rural area. The teasers show both snow and an axe-wielding man.

It’s most definitely Until Dawn. It’s probably safe to say that the game will also push Project Morpheus, Sony’s VR headset. As we know thanks to Oculus, horror and virtual reality go very well together. It makes a lot of sense for Sony to repurpose the game as a VR title as a way to increase interest in the technology. Twitch and Youtube viewers eat that scare-cam shit up.
