Don’t Starve scheduled for April 24 release

Don’t Starve, the new title coming to us from Klei Entertainment, will appear on Steam on April 24 2013. Not only that, but it will also receive six months of additional free content after release.

This was revealed at PAX East, during an interview between Joystiq and Sound designer Matthew Marteinsson. The game, from what I have seen, could be summarized as Minecraft with an edgier aesthetic. Players are dropped in a procedurally-generated world and tasked with obtaining resources that allow them to survive, as well food required to feed themselves with. What I wasn’t aware of however, was that the game will also feature a sanity-meter that, for the first time in a few years, actually does something other than blurring the screen. According to Matthew:

You can entirely lose all of your sanity, and then come back from that. There’s lots of things you can do to keep up your sanity: you wear dapper clothing, you pick flowers, you do civilized things, and then your sanity comes back.

Klei Entertainment was previously responsible for Mark of the Ninja and Shank, so expectations for this game are very high. If you really can’t contain your excitement, then a beta is already available.
