Diablo 3 is finally coming to consoles

After over 15 years of being absent from the console space, Blizzard Entertainment is finally making a triumphant return with Diablo 3 on Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. During Sony’s big Playstation 4 press event today, Blizzard’s Chris Metzen took center stage and announced Blizzard and Sony would be working together as part of a new partnership. The first project to be part of this new partnership is a port of Diablo 3 on both the Playstation 3 and the Playstation 4.

Blizzard mentioned that the console version will naturally feature customized “couch” controls made specifically with the Dualshock in mind. There will also be 4 player local co-op, which seems to suggest that the console versions of the game will not feature the always online DRM client-server structure that the PC version has.

No word on whether or not you can play your already existing Diablo 3 Battle.net characters on the PS3 or PS4 versions yet, but with the freedom Sony tends to give developers, we’re hoping you’ll be able to share between the 3 platforms.

The PS3 version of the game are set to be playable at PAX East this year, so hopefully we’ll get some impressions then. For now though check the gallery blow for screens of the Playstation 3 version!
