Released some three months ago but just brought to my attention thanks to Polygon is a short film about a boy in a Sonic costume. Simply named “The Hedgehog”, the short film follows a boy dressed as the blue video game hero as he plays by himself in a field. The video explores themes of childhood, loneliness and suicide (potential warning for those affected by such content).
The short is shot beautifully and is a somber reminder that childhood is something that many of us fondly look back upon with nostalgia and maybe even regret. Regret for opportunities missed, happiness lost.
Yeah, so the short is pretty well-made but depressing. If you want to feel a bit sad inside but admire some quality film-making, check it out. I’m gonna go feel bad now.
