Montague’s Mount releasing October 9th

Montague’s Mount, developed by independent Irish game developer PolyPusher Studios, has had its release date announced and it’s right around the corner. Hitting PC, Mac, and Linux on GoG, Get Games, and GamersGate, this first-person psychological thriller is set to release on October 9th. The game will appear on Steam, given it gets enough votes on Steam Greenlight.

Apparently being based on a true story, Montague’s Mount follows the journey of a one man on a seemingly uninhabited Irish island filled with mysteries, puzzles, and the crushing horrors of isolation. The game’s protagonist awakes from what he believes was a ship wreck, not knowing how or why he has washed up on Montague’s Mount nor knowing what his own name is. The Gaelic language is used prominently throughout the game, appearing on signs, documents, and in the narrative. Oculus Rift support has also been confirmed for the game, giving me yet another reason to pick one of those up.

The developer commentary provided shows off a nice chunk of gameplay, and I couldn’t help but notice a similarity to Dear Esther–having the character explore not only a desolate island but also his very own soul, with eloquent introspective dialogue. Despite the similarity, this game might just offer more of what I had originally wanted from Dear Esther: not only a thought provoking narrative but more gameplay mechanics to boot.

Montague’s Mount is definitely on my radar. I’m looking forward to its release in a few weeks. Ensure that it hits Steam by voting for it on Greenlight. You best believe it has now been added to our Greenlight Collection.
