Last-minute The Evil Within Details for PC

The wait for The Evil Within is crawling agonizingly closer.  It feels as if it is perpetually just around the corner, and Bethesda teases us with details like mouse and keyboard support and difficulty settings.

Ugh.

Over at the Bethesda forums, some more details have been released in regards to the game in a variety of different categories.  You might want to take a look at these if you haven’t already pre-ordered.

When it comes to PC Specs:

Minimum

  • OS: Windows 7/8 (64 bit)
  • GPU: GTX 460 or an equivalent 1gb VRAM card
  • CPU: i7 or an equivalent 4+ core processor
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • HDD: 50 GB
  • High Speed Internet Connection (Steam account and activation)

Recommended

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8 (64 bit)
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 670 or equivalent with 4GBs of VRAM
  • CPU : i7 with four plus cores
  • RAM: 4 GBs RAM
  • 50 GB of hard drive space*
  • High Speed Internet Connection (Steam account and activation)

*It’s worth noting that the 50 GB of space required is for the PC install. When the installation is complete, the game will take up ~41 GB of HDD space.

Console download sizes:

Xbox One — 40 GB HDD Space
PlayStation 4 — 40 GB HDD Space
PlayStation 3 — 7 GB HDD Space
Xbox 360 — 7 GB

Note: The Evil Within requires a mandatory install to the Xbox 360’s HDD or a USB 2.0 (or higher) flash drive.

As for why the PC recommended specs ask for 4GB of VRAM?  This is because the Playstation 4 and Xbox One both have 8GB of unified RAM, which can be used both as system and video memory.  Bethesda further states that the PC version is functionally (I don’t like the sounds of that…) identical to to those platforms and they recommend 4GB of system memory, and 4GB of VRAM for the best experience.

Pre-load dates:

  • Steam — Available for pre-load on October 10th. (We will update when it’s live)
  • PlayStation 3 & 4 — Currently slated for Pre-load on Sunday, October 12th. (We will update when it’s live)
  • Xbox One — Already available for preload with your purchase of the game.
  • Xbox 360 — Pre-loading is not available, however, you will be able to purchase digitally on day 1.

Graphics options…?

Well, it’s the big lead-up to launch and everyone is excited, so it makes sense that Bethesda would talk about absolutely everything.  I’m not going to list your anti-aliasing options here though.  To sum it up, The Evil Within will have a 30fps framerate, and resolution support for 4k televisions and computer screens.  Even higher if you have the tech for it.  PC users will able to use a debug command to change the framerate if they absolutely wanted, but of course this is not recommended.

Other things worth mentioning are mouse and keyboard support for PC, letterbox disabling and the debug console (more info on that at launch.  And if you happen to think the game is too difficult, the difficulty level can be changed at any time.

Bethesda also issued a fair word of warning to those happen to be one of those lucky or devious people that have a copy of the game before its official release: don’t go posting any videos or streams as Bethesda will try their best to take them down.

This warning goes not just for pirates, but people who legally purchased a copy from a vendor who broke the street date.  You’ll have to wait just like everyone else until October 14th to post or stream without repercussions.
