Eternal Darkness trademark eternally in the dark?

Coming from Nintendo Enthusiast is news that Nintendo has put in a request for an extension on their trademark for Gamecube classic Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. Hey wait, stop that, you. Put away the balloons and confetti. An extension doesn’t mean that Nintendo is using the trademark for anything so much as sitting on the rights so they can’t be snatched up by someone else. Members of Eternal Darkness’  development team, Silicon Knights, have formed Precursor Games to create a spiritual successor called Shadow of the Eternals. One has cause to wonder if Nintendo is fighting this silent trademark battle solely to keep the rights out of Precursor Games’s hands.

I don’t know, I just want more from the series. I have fond memories of a summer spent on the verge of in-game insanity, where my days and dreams have since coagulated into one solid chunk of reminiscence. Oh, to be young again, where time could be spent on stapling blankets to my window frames to black out my room and preserve a sense of dread while I played horror classics. Plus, I still have Eternal Darkness’ sound effects etched in some cobwebby corner of mind. PARGON PARGON PARGON ANTORBOK MAGORMOR MANTOROK PARGON PARGON PARGON.
