‘Victor’s Video Vault’ Announced, Blending Retro Vibes with Horror

Victor's Video Vault

Victor’s Video Vault has just been announced by independent developer Stingbot Games for PC and console. The title offers a first-person horror experience, taking players back to a 1995 video rental store, where one night shift becomes something far more threatening.

Players take on the role of an a lone night-shift employee at the titular Victor’s Video Vault. While the usual routine is to stock shelves, help customers, and close the store on time, everything changes when the last client leaves. What happens next isn’t the usual or routine.

The final rental of the night starts to rewrite reality inside the store, with each successive night being shaped in a way that reflects what happened there. Every night offers something different. For example, one night, you see a store flood, and something hunts you beneath the water. Another night, you see an alien vessel destroying the aisles.

As time passes, players must adapt to shifting rules, as the once-predictable environment becomes unstable. Players have to be observant and quick-witted to survive the nights. To put an end to all of it, players will have to solve environmental puzzles and uncover the hidden areas.

Victor’s Video Vault also features an archive mode, a separate replayable mode that takes players back five years, to 1990, to uncover the first outbreak at the store. Players will have to search the stores and look for anomalies to uncover why everything is happening. You will also be given a journal to track your progress and record rare phenomena.

Victor’s Video Vault looks to be another interesting indie title. The developers’ approach to a 90s-style video aesthetic really stands out, blending nostalgia with a constant sense of danger. While there’s no official release date for the game yet, you can wishlist it on Steam.
