The War Z gets rebooted once again with successor game Romero’s Aftermath

Remember The WarZ, that zombie survival game that had its fare share of controversy at launch, with false advertising complaints that prompted Valve to temporarily remove it from Steam? Well, that game is once again getting rebooted. This isn’t the first time, either. In order to avoid legal issues with the studios behind Brad Pitt’s World War Z film, The WarZ received a name change to Infestation: Survival Stories. Since then, we haven’t really heard too much from the game despite it sitting comfortable on Steam with no more drama.

In partnership with George Cameron Romero, son of the acclaimed director George A. Romero, and father of the zombie genre as we know it, Free Reign East will be developing a successor to Infestation. Romero’s “creative vision and film experience” will help the team create a more “authentic” zombie survival game, according to the developer.

Romero’s Aftermath, while a new game entirely, will be taking all of the positive aspects of Infestation and building on them from the grond up. For owners of Infestation, access to Aftermath’s beta will be free of charge. Access to Aftermath‘s alpha will be made available to avid players of Infestation (over 100 hours played, $25 spent in-game, or for those with legacy accounts).
