The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will not be available for PS3 and Xbox 360, data transfer explained

cry

We have some sad news and helpful information for fans of Telltale’s The Walking Dead series. Let’s get the bad out of the way first, okay?

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier have been cancelled. This includes both the digital and physical editions for those platforms. As unfortunate as this may be, this move shows Telltale’s wholly dedicated move to current-gen development, which will work wonders to iron out some of those technical issues we’ve come to expect along with the great stories they deliver.

Now, the good news! Telltale has revealed how they’re going to be handling the process of importing saves for when A New Frontier premieres next week on the 20th.

You’ll have multiple options for how you want to play the game. The first is a default mode that gives you a Clementine that has lost everyone from the past two seasons, everyone except for baby AJ. Because, you know, killing babies is wrong! But, then again, the series creator, Robert Kirkman, did it in the comics so…

You also have the ability to continue your personally tailored storyline from seasons 1 and 2. For this, you have two options available to you. The first is something called “Story Generator.” And it’s pretty neat. As its name suggests, this option will allow you to essentially generate your own Clementine and storyline according to how you answer a series of questions. This will let you start A New Frontier from one of 42 different starting points.

Lastly, you could also import your season 2 saved data. If you’ll be playing A New Frontier on the same platform you played season 2 on, then you’ll just have to follow the initial prompt you’ll get when you boot up the new game, asking if you want to import your data. But what if you want to play on a new platform? Well, there’s an option for that, too! If you still have the previous platform you played season 2 on, then you could create a Telltale account through their app and use their cloud feature. Season 2 has been recently updated on all platforms to enable the Cloud Saves feature.

Stay tuned for my review of A New Frontier’s two-part premiere next week!
