Ugly is an upcoming third-person horror game for PC by indie game developer Yamaitachi.
Inspired by family-centered beliefs and faith, the game follows a young boy named Shu Onodera teams up with Reiko Miyama to confront “Ugliness” using limited resources and defensive measures, as they attempt to escape from a confined space.
The game combines survival horror elements-where resource management and stealth are crucial-with “elements that people find unpleasant,” evoked by the concept of ugliness, to create a profound sense of terror. Is it human? A supernatural entity? Or something else entirely?
Game Features:
・A Worldview Inspired by a Unique Faith: Centered on a unique family-based faith and the question “What is the Ugly?”, the game weaves in elements that people find unpleasant to depict a distinctly Japanese brand of horror.
・Survival Where Resource Management and Stealth Are Key: Utilize limited resources and defensive tools to confront supernatural threats while aiming to escape the enclosed space.
・Two Distinct Survival Styles: The game features systems where each of the characters, Shu Onodera and Reiko Miyama, confront threats in their own unique way. Though physically weak, Shu can perform emergency evasion using defensive tools like a bat, while Reiko possesses the ability to use cursed energy to destroy supernatural entities. The human drama between the two characters is also a highlight.
Ugly is available to wishlist now, and is scheduled for release in late 2026. The game’s Supported Languages will include Japanese: (Audio & Subtitles), English (Subtitles), Chinese (Traditional & Simplified – Subtitles), and Korean.
