Alan Wake 2 won three awards at tonight’s The Game Awards 2023 show. We also got a date for New Game Plus mode and it’s sooner than we thought.
After receiving rave reviews across the board, including ours, and being nominated for a whopping eight awards (most nominations alongside Baldurs’s Gate 3, which took GOTY among others), Alan Wake 2 took home awards for best narrative, best game direction, and best art direction.
Also present with a stellar performance of ‘Herald of Darkness’ at the show was the Finnish band Poets of the Fall, taking on the role of the fictitious in-game rockers Old Gods of Asgard, the band featured prominently in the game. In addition to their appearance, none other than David Harewood (aka Warlin Door) presented the performance, accompanied by game creator Sam Lake and the two halves of Alan Wake themselves, Matthew Porretta and Ilkka Villi. It’s fair to say this was an amazing moment to witness, so be sure to watch it if you missed it performed live.
Sam Lake took to the stage to collect the awards for best narrative and best game direction in person, seemingly moved close to tears several times.
In his acceptance speech, Lake emphasized the importance of teamwork, saying:
Direction is nothing without a team who actually builds it. Believing the same vision and building something out of it, we can make miracles. We can make art. And we can be more than the sum of our parts.
All in all, Alan Wake 2 won awards in the following categories:
- Best Narrative
- Best Art Direction
- Best Game Direction
On what almost seemed like a “one more thing” side note, Remedy announced a New Game Plus mode dubbed ‘Final Draft’ with new story content that will drop on Monday, December 11th.
One thing is certain, Sam Lake and Remedy have created an unambiguous milestone in gaming and one of the best survival horror titles of the past decade.
Alan Wake 2 is available now on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
