NeoBards Entertainment Ltd. is a Hong Kong video game development company founded nearly a decade ago. Over the years, the studio has built its reputation as a co-development partner, working alongside major publishers like Capcom, Square Enix, and Konami.
The studio contributed to several high-profile titles, including Resident Evil Re:Verse and Resident Evil Resistance. However, its most recent release, Silent Hill f, on which it served as the lead developer, became the fastest-selling title in the franchise’s history.
During a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, NeoBards COO Wonder Lin talked about what makes co-development successful. He said it only works when both companies trust each other instead of constantly overseeing every small decision. Having confidence in each other’s abilities is essential for building a strong working relationship.
He further stated:
In our relationship with Konami or Capcom, they trust us. It’s not like the Eye of Sauron is looking at everything we’re doing. They know that when they give us a project, it will be on time, there will be no surprises or trouble, and the quality will be there.
NeoBards’ approach to building trust is simple and old-school, as the studio prefers meeting in person and discussing everything in detail to better understand what publishers want. They believe spending time together face-to-face can resolve many problems.
It’s good to see that Konami trusted NeoBards Entertainment with the development of Silent Hill f instead of micromanaging every decision, giving the studio the freedom to bring their vision to life.
