ONTOS, the New Game From the Creators of SOMA, Has Been Delayed to 2027

Frictional Games has announced that ONTOS, the successor to SOMA and Amnesia: The Bunker, has been delayed to 2027. The game was first planned for this year, but it did not have an exact release date. Now, the Swedish studio says it needs more development time to reach the scale it wants.

The news was shared via the game’s official Twitter account. In it, Frictional said ONTOS is its “most ambitious game to date,” both because of its size and scale and because of the depth of its story and gameplay.

Because of this, the team has decided to delay the game until 2027. The studio also says it will share more details about the game’s characters and world soon.

ONTOS was shown in December 2025 during The Game Awards as a sci-fi mystery thriller with an immersive story and gameplay based on touch-based and interactive systems. The game is being developed by Frictional Games and published by Kepler Interactive. It is planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The official description of the game reads:

A sci-fi mystery set on the repurposed moon hotel Samsara. Uncover cryptic experiments, face unsettling encounters, and piece together a mind-bending narrative. The deeper you go, the more the truth unravels as you confront the ultimate question: What is reality?
