New DayZ details from TwitchCon arrive

Lead Producer of DayZ, Brian Hicks, took to the inaugural TwitchCon this weekend to talk about what’s next for their open world zombie survival game. Among various details about the game’s current standing on Steam Early Access, and potential Beta release by this year’s end, DayZ will soon have changes done to make player characters a bit more unique.

Announced at TwitchCon was a new system that would highlight player character lifespans via facial hair growth and scar accumulation. The longer a player characters lives within the game world, the more facial hair they will have. Shaving will also be possible. In addition, scars from received wounds will accumulate. Body scars have not yet been confirmed and are for the time being going to be localized to the face only. Three soft skills are in development as well and will be added to player characters to increase player attachment. Ostensibly, skills will be based around strength, stamina and health.

Concept art for contaminated map areas where hazmat suits and gas masks will be needed was shown off as well, including a look at the WIP Little Bird helicopter for player travel. Outside of this, not much else has been revealed, but these things seem they will pretty significant to fans. Soft skills alone will no doubt help increase the fear of losing one’s own character whether as an aggressor or target. And that potential beta release can’t come soon enough!
