Hideo Kojima Says the OD Teaser Hides a “Big Hint,” But You’ll Need to Watch It 100 Times

OD

OD, the new horror game from Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios, continues to be a major mystery. However, Hideo Kojima recently revealed that the teaser trailer actually contains a “big hint” to understanding more about the project, though it requires some effort to find.

In a recent interview published by Nikkei Xtrend and translated by GamesRadar, Kojima discussed the new horror title that seems to blur the lines between video games and films.

According to Kojima, OD is a media “like no other,” yet it is entirely built within a video game engine — something quite unusual.

“I think when you first see OD it looks like horror,” Kojima said. “But the system it uses isn’t ordinary. Everything is made in a game engine, and a game is a game, but it’s still a system like no other. That’s why we built a completely new medium together with Microsoft.”

As usual, Kojima’s words make things even more confusing, using the mysterious style he’s known for. Kojima joked that he couldn’t reveal more details because “I can’t say anything else or Mr. Phil will be mad at me,” referring to Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming.

Kojima added, “If you watch the teaser trailer many times there’s a hint. I really can’t say what it is, but if you watch it 100 times… At the end of the trailer it reads ‘for all players and screamers’. That’s also a big hint,” he said.

Another important clue, according to Kojima, can be found at the end of the teaser — in the phrase “for all players and screamers.” Of course, it’s difficult to draw conclusions from these hints, even when filtering through Kojima’s typically hyperbolic style.

Recently, Kojima also said that OD is “something totally different,” and fans will either love or hate it.
