First Gameplay Footage Drops for Amnesia: Rebirth

Amnesia: Rebirth

If you’re like us, you simply can’t wait for the release of Amnesia: Rebirth. In the meantime, you can keep yourself on tenterhooks by checking out the first gameplay footage that was just released. The video was posted on the official IGN YouTube channel. According to developer Frictional Games via their Twitter page:

You’ll get to see a short, but intense monster encounter and a few bits of deadly, physics-based puzzle solving.

Based on the footage, that’s indeed what you get. There’s the gloomy (though not so gothic) aesthetic, lantern, chase sequences, monster growls, physics of the HPL Engine (one assumes) and all the classic hallmarks that have made Amnesia such a huge success over the years. Viewers will also notice there seems to be a lot more voice acting than in the previous games. Basically, it looks like it’s going to be a pretty sweet horror experience. We would expect nothing less from Frictional.

Here’s what the game’s story is about:

In Amnesia: Rebirth, you are Tasi Trianon, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you…Time is against you. Step into Tasi’s shoes and guide her through her personal terror and pain. While you struggle to make your way through a desolate landscape, you must also struggle with your own hopes, fears, and bitter regrets. And still you must continue, step by step, knowing that if you fail you will lose everything.

Amnesia: Rebirth is set to release on October 20th for PS4 and PC. There’s been no word yet whether it will be released on any other systems. At the time of writing, you can pre-purchase the game on Steam at a 10% discount.
