The wait is over, as Dying Light: The Beast has officially launched worldwide, marking a major return for Techland’s zombie-slaying survival horror franchise. Available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game throws players back into the shoes of series protagonist Kyle Crane, now caught in the aftermath of brutal experiments at the hands of the sinister Baron.
“This project taught us more than any before about the importance of staying true to the core elements of our IP,” said Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka in a statement celebrating release. “For players, it’s an exciting return to the roots of the series, and for us, we’re back on the right track.”
Set in the treacherous Castor Woods, The Beast pushes parkour to new heights, expands combat into something raw and primal, and doubles down on the series’ notorious day-and-night cycle. “Go ahead — tear through the infected by day and unleash your power. But when night falls, be careful. The Volatile horrors that hunt in the dark are more fearsome than you can imagine,” warned game director Nathan Lemaire.
Alongside its console and PC release, Dying Light: The Beast is also Steam Deck Verified. According to Rendering and Audio Director Tomasz Szałkowski, the team optimized a dedicated performance mode to ensure smooth gameplay with HDR and VRR support, making the handheld version a viable way to experience the game on the go.
As for Crane’s latest journey, The Beast blends open-world exploration with survival horror, forcing players to balance alliances and revenge while struggling to control the monstrous side of Crane himself. Techland promises this is its most ambitious project yet, and a self-described “love letter” to fans who’ve followed the series from the beginning.
Dying Light: The Beast is out now for $59.99, with Xbox One and PS4 versions expected later this year. You can watch the launch trailer below, and hopefully experience the title for yourselves.
