Castlevania Lords of Shadow: New screens + Analysis

Some new screens have been released for Castlevania Lords of Shadow, which you can see below along with a brief analysis to go along with each scene. These screens elaborate more on what was seen in the epic Kojima-cut trailer. One of the highlights of this batch of screens is the fight with Necromancer. I have no doubts at all about this game’s quality and potential to exceed expectations. My expectations are really high, and I know Mercury Steam will deliver. Maybe not to everyone’s tastes, but definitely to mine. This is like Super Castlevania IV in spirit-form. You have all those beautiful outdoor environments filled with enemies coming at you from left and right, before eventually making it to Castlevania. Seems like a good deal to me. More info as it comes. All images come from here.

This seems to be a room within the confines of the castle. It’s probably a lead-in scene to a boss fight or something akin to that, judging by the health-refill station being situated right there.

Even more references to Classic Vanias here with , not only a sidescrolling perspective, traps being utilized as roadblocks scattered throughout your path to Dracula. Not only must Gabriel get past the horizontal flame pillars, but there seems to be a ‘spike floor’ up ahead, with holes waiting for spikes to go through and impale Gabriel. The blood on that floor indicates that it may have already succeeded on another unlucky soul.

Besides the beautiful art direction present in this image, here’s Gabriel in the supposed “land of the dead” where of course Necromancer rules. He also seems to be getting close to where he’ll actually fight Necro as seen by the next image.

Once again, the scenery is the same, now we actually get to see the battle that follows the dialogue exchanged between Gabriel and Necro in the recent Kojima-cut trailer. First thing that comes to mind when I see this is, Succubus much? The succubus, who was posing as Alucard’s mother, in SOTN employed a similar attack by making clones of herself prompting the player to hit the right one to cause actual damage. Necro seems to have that move here. Once again I have to say, this is looking awesome.

Here we have our hero being attacked by Carmilla. She seems to be using some sort of magic that, obviously, is keeping Gabriel from getting any closer to her. But as we all know, once this scene is over you’ll soon be kicking Carmilla’s ass. If a giant skull head comes out of nowhere and completes her 2nd form in this fight I will literally wet my pants…

I may be digging to deep into it, but I’m assuming this might be a new variation of the Cloaked Knight from SOTN seeing as how the center of his power seems to be consuming his blade. This might serve to be a mini boss fight of sorts. Once again, taking place in the castle.

We return to the battle with Carmilla, taking place in the same arena like room. This time we see another of her possible attacks. Taking a page from Shaft’s book, she’s probably going to be summoning foes at Gabriel while keeping a safe distance before finally getting some face time with his Combat Cross. The one foe we see here is a variation of the classic vampire.

It’s highly unlikely, in this particular scene at least, but if those huge knights turn out to be Final Guards then Gabriel might be in trouble. Once again, that’s just me looking a bit too deep into things but at the end of this passage way seems to be where Gabriel stands and looks out at Castlevania. We see this scene in trailers when the camera captures the whole castle on screen then pans and tilts until finally zooming in on Gabriel standing on that balcony.

Well, looks like I was wrong. Seems like instead of Final Guards, thank God, Gabriel will be greeted by vampires. Also, the spinning whip attack is in, but honestly, was anyone really expecting otherwise?

We’ve already seen this particular scene and dialogue interchange in previous trailers, but here it is again! Gabriel interacting with Pan, looking for aid in finding the Lords of Shadow. As long as she, and the other supporting characters, don’t reach the level of vocal annoyance that SOTN’s Librarian achieved then it’s all good.

Well, that was a somewhat lengthy piece, hope you all enjoyed that! When more Lords of Shadow screens surface, expect another scene analysis!
