Amnesia: The Bunker Will Have ‘Immersive Sim’ Elements

Amnesia: The Bunker - the player holding a flaming torch.

It’s almost time for Amnesia: The Bunker, but before then, how about another teaser? No doubt many of you have been getting to grips with the demo that came out recently. Thankfully, the full release is just days away, which is a relief given Frictional had to delay it a number of times.

In this latest video from the team, creative lead Fredrik Olsson breaks down some of the elements you’ll be coming face-to-face with. While it’s an Amnesia title through and through, it will have a few differences to keep you on your toes. For one, The Bunker will have more “immersive sim” aspects, particularly when it comes to experimenting with resources. This could mean trying to burn something with fuel to see if it will progress the game.

Additionally, there are three difficulty modes to choose from: easy, normal, and hard. As you can imagine, the easier mode will be more forgiving, with lights staying lit longer, having more save points, etc. Normal is the setting Frictional recommends for newcomers to Amnesia: The Bunker, while hard speaks for itself. Those who want more of a challenge, may be intrigued by the concept of fewer resources and having to think on your feet more. There are even plans to add two more modes post-launch.

Olsson goes on to say that The Bunker will boast replayability. The way this will work is through the use of dynamic monster AI, which means the antagonist will react more to the player than to a set script. There are also random elements, such as codes that change and the different placements of things like traps and barrels with each playthrough.

It’s all sounding pretty exciting, but we’ll find out more once the game releases. You can pick up Amnesia: The Bunker on June 6 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or Steam. Don’t forget to check out Olsson’s “3 Key Aspects” video below.
