In a year filled with incredible upcoming releases, one horror title is among a select few on our must-play list. Even though its release was recently pushed back to March 20th, 2024, Alone in the Dark still looks to be a promising return to the Gothic survival horror genre it helped define.
A newly released trailer for the game showcases what to expect from main characters Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood’s investigation into the foreboding Derceto Manor, where
In the game, players will be able to play as Edward or Emily and uncover Derceto’s mysteries from two perspectives. Their branching paths include completely different cutscenes and levels.
The new trailer begins with the pair entering Derceto and quickly realizing that the place is not what it seems. They are shown interacting with the aloof and evasive denizens of the manor and encountering its evershifting environments.
Everyone in the manor, from high society residents to doctors and servants, is a suspect, as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of Emily’s uncle, Jeremy Hartwood.
Throughout the trailer, Edward and Emily question what’s really behind all the strange things that are going on around them. In one scene, Emily states that “Derceto has a deranging effect on people.” The manor’s twisted and illusory nature begins to affect them and they start witnessing strange and inexplicable phenomena. We see vines and roots entangling the house, and at one point, Jeremy is visible through a hole in the floorboards, seemingly in the middle of a therapy session.
It will be refreshing to play a more traditional survival horror game after the psychedelic experience of Alan Wake 2. This contrast in tone is just one of the reasons we’re eagerly awaiting its release.
Pre-orders for the Standard and Deluxe versions of the game are available now. Pre-orders for the Digital Deluxe Edition include the Derceto 1992 Costume Pack, Director’s Commentary Mode, and Vintage Horror Filter Pack.
Alone in the Dark will be coming to PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5 on March 20th, 2024.
