Prometheus

a magnificent director

Originally slated as a direct prequel to ‘Alien,’ the project mutated and evolved into something that Ridley Scott felt could be a standalone story.  While it has been said that it will have ties to the original series, such as possibly explaining the origin of the “Space Jockey” and perhaps the Aliens themselves, it has not been confirmed.  Knowing that Ridley Scott is coming back to do another sci-fi epic is reason enough to be excited; such a wonderful and skilled visionary director like him is hard to come by.  Here is a snippet of what he had to say regarding the project:

“While ‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping-off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place.  The keen fan will recognize strands of ‘Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.  I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”

The cast for the film includes the talent of Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Noomi Rapace – to name a few and with the stamp that Sigourney Weaver left on Ridley Scott’s last space outing, whoever gets the lead will have big shoes to fill.  For any fan of the ‘Alien’ series or just science fiction in general, it will be very exciting to see how ‘Prometheus’ expands and unfolds until the release date, which is said to be first quarter 2012.  What are your hopes and dreams for this project?  What are your fears?  Feel free to post what you want to see or hope to experience in this new universe that is surely going to be exciting.

Keep checking back for updates!
