Let’s speculate: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow ‘Reverie’ DLC

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is one of those games that unfortunately didn’t get the commercial success it truly deserved. Maybe due to the lack of any heavy-duty marketing or maybe because gamers were just too busy with other titles at the time of its release. Regardless, Lords of Shadow will fortunately be receiving DLC starting in February with the release of ‘Reverie’. While we know the basic set-up of this chapter’s plot, we don’t exactly know anything beyond that. What exactly will occur when Gabriel goes back to Carmilla’s castle? And how will his reunion with Laura play out? And lastly, what surprises can we expect from ‘Reverie’ ? Time to speculate! And I hate to sound like a thread on a message board, but spoilers ahead!

Back when a few weeks were left till the release of Lords of Shadow I made a certain prediction, that Gabriel would in fact become Dracula. Now, I’m going to speculate what may unfold in the first DLC pack for Lords of Shadow, ‘Reverie’. So without any further delay, let’s begin.

The Creature making an appearance

Basically, ‘Reverie’ will see Gabriel returning to the castle to aid Laura against a certain evil that has been unleashed upon the death of Carmilla. What ‘evil’ will that exactly be? One thing is for certain, Gabriel is going to be much more aggressive than he was prior to the game’s pre-credits ending. And we may see him starting to drift into the dark side as well. So, obviously we know that whatever this big ‘evil’ is it’ll still prove to be no match for Gabriel in the end. Even if that ‘evil’ turns out to be another of Frankenstein’s creations, and who else but The Creature.

The laboratory levels in the castle really did a good job of pointing towards a potential confrontation with The Creature. Instead, we faced off with another of Frankenstein’s creations, a mechanical spider-like monster that proved to be an enjoyable boss fight. This same beast returned later on when we made it to the top of the Clockwork level, where Gabriel finally put an end to it. The death of this beast, and Carmilla who possibly possessed control over The Creature, may have lead to the awakening of Frankenstein’s most famous creation.

And, of course, when the battle between Gabriel and this monster is all said and done, The Creature won’t exactly be left to die. With Gabriel becoming Dracula, and eventually claiming ownership to his castle, he may want this beast to stick around waiting to be brought back.

Travel back through time

We’ve already seen the artwork for what seems to be a time-machine in this upcoming DLC, but what does this actually imply (besides the obvious)? Couple that with the images we’ve seen of the Lords of Shadow’s siblings, back when they were part of the Brotherhood of Light, and it looks like we may get to learn more about Camrilla, Cornell, and Zobek.

For a little refresher: The Lords of Shadow were once very powerful and highly respected leaders of the Brotherhood of Light, they then ascended into heaven, leaving behind their ‘dark counterparts’ who then became the Lords of Shadow. Looks like Gabriel will be taking a little history lesson in Reverie. He may walk away, travel back, with a new perspective of things possibly adding even more to his gradual transformation into the Prince of Darkness.

Laura’s death

This is where it gets good, for everyone but Laura. Right from the player’s introduction to the character, Laura seemed like a troubled soul in an immortal shell. Ever so playful yet full of dark energy, Laura looked like she was going to be quite a force to go up against, hell, she even almost killed Gabriel. What stopped her was the realization of what she had lost once she became a blood-sucking creature of the night. And what she lost was love, the ability to love and the happiness brought about by being loved. Both factors are central to everyone’s life, and sadly, that is something that Laura lacked. From this moment on, she was depicted as quite a tragic figure that may seek redemption and one that also mirrors Gabriel in the post-credits scene where he seeks to be rid of the immortality bestowed upon him. So how will Laura’s death come about?

That’s something that’s honestly hard to speculate, it’s already enough that I’m predicting she’s going to die! Upon her death, her powers may be transferred to Gabriel, which in turn will continue his descent into darkness.

Another female loss for Gabriel

When ‘Reverie’ is all said and done, Gabriel will once again be faced with another loss, adding more fuel to his inner rage. First Marie, then Claudia, and now Laura. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the ending scene plays out like the image below. Painting Gabriel against the night sky with a full moon light ever so brightly. With death once again at his feet, we can already see the man he will eventually become. And now I’m sounding like a Zobek loading screen…

So what do you guys think? What are you looking forward to in ‘Reverie’? Do you agree or disagree with my predictions? I would love to read yours so please leave them below in the comments and if you want to discuss this in a much more heavy manner, you can feel free to contact me.
