Upcoming DayZ Updates Show a Boost in Visuals, Animations

DayZ Standalone’s latest developer status update is chock full of information about the 0.59 update and what’s next, and while that info is very interesting to avid players (like myself), let’s take a look at some pretty pictures first. Yay!

In development for some time, DayZ‘s new renderer has been a focus for developer Bohemia and fans for quite some time. With it comes optimization improvements and updated visuals. This week’s status update talks about the current state of its completion and shows off new lighting, fog and rain effects. As a long-time player of the game, these WIP effects are looking good! Check out that rain and dynamic range.

As for the rest of the status report, Bohemia is hard at work on implementing the renderer’s improvements to DayZ‘s experimental branch, with water and sky rendering up next. The animation system / player control will overhaul the feel of the game entirely, and Bohemia hopes to have it released by the new year.

A lengthy discussion about the game’s new UI by Peter Nespesny, Lead Designer, can also be found. Along with renderer optimizations, the new UI will also contribute to an overall FPS boost for players. For more on the development status of 0.59 of DayZ and the game’s approach to beta-status, read the full status report.
