Rumor: Resident Evil: The Mercenaries Bio Ops coming to Wii U

It’s rumor time! Dual Pixels has just posted a list of Wii U launch titles that will be available through the platform’s eShop service (like the 3DS’s). The site reports that a source close to them, with “insider knowledge of Nintendo”, has fed them this information. So, yeah, this should be taken with a huge grain of Umbrella-branded salt.

Capcom is among the publishers listed as having content available for the launch of Nintendo’s new home console. And, yes, one of their two “planned” titles happens to be a new Resident Evil game.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries Bio Ops may or may not be coming to the Wii U’s eShop, since this is still just a rumor. But if this is in fact legit, then I’m sure we’ll get an official reveal at this year’s E3, where Nintendo is set to reveal everything consumers want to know abot their new console. So, about that name.

The Mercenaries Bio Ops definitely sounds like it could be a Wii U version of The Mercenaries 3D, sans the 3D, of course. It could also end up offering more content than said 3DS title. It’ll be interesting to see how the controls for this title would work– the tablet controller could definitely be used for item management and to give players a view of the map. And Bio Ops could also end up having features unlocked when connected with The Mercenaries 3D.

There’s only a few months left until E3 rolls around, so we’ll have to wait until then to see if this is a real thing or not. But honestly, I can definitely see this being legit– Capcom might want to make the series’ debut on the platform an upgraded version of a previous title (with a similar touch-screen set-up) to test the waters before pulling a Revelations and giving us a full-blown entry in the franchise.
