Resident Evil Revelations producer says many announcements are coming this year

This year marks Resident Evil’s 20th anniversary. It makes me feel so old, but I’m excited for what the year will hold, fromĀ announcements to actual game releases. We already have Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster coming in a couple of weeks, with Umbrella Corps also announced for this year. What other games can fans look forward to?

Resident Evil Revelations producer, Masachika Kawata, has stated (in an interview with 4Gamer) that “many interesting announcements” will be coming this year. We already know about Resident Evil 2’s long-awaited remake, but there’s also the question mark surrounding Resident Evil 7. We know it has to be coming, and what better year than 2016 to unleash it. And while nothing is confirmed, another Revelations game could also be set for the futureā€”that series has been an excellent marriage of Resident Evil’s old-school and modern styles.

I’m ready to see how Capcom plans to celebrate Resident Evil’s big year after the releases of the 0 remaster and Umbrella Corps!

Resident Evil 6 for PS4/Xbox One was rated by a korean site and that kind of outed Revelations 2 so I’m guessing that will be coming for sure …. Though I doubt that Capcom will add any real improvements which will make the release kind of ‘meh’. I don’t mind HD ports, but for the love of christ, please include an incentive to double dip …
Anyway … Revelations 3 would be cool … I just hope they polish the gameplay mechanics a bit.
Since this is the 20th anniversary of Resident Evil, I also believe that we will at least get a Trailer for Resident Evil 7.
I would find it impressive for Capcom to actually release a new Outbreak title rather than just porting something.

I hope we get to see the Resident Evil 2 remake at E3.

I was working for an indie studio in Canada before my move across the river into the USA. Believe me or not, time will tell. I know what two announcements are, one because I helped worked on the game, and the other, was because it was an accidental reveal to us because it was listed on documents we had to sign agreeing to a “Lips Sealed” policy while working there. Anyways, one of these announcements is that Resident Evil 6 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One. That is all I know about that.

The other announcement is about Resident Evil Outbreak. The studio I was working at had been working on a Resident Evil Outbreak like clone for a couple years as a side project. After awhile, we pitched it to Capcom in March 2015 and they were impressed, but did not green-light the game. Unexpectedly however, in late June 2015, my boss got a call from Capcom telling us they want us to develop an HD edition of Outbreak, which we are. Its really odd they outsourced this to us, being an unknown indie studio, but the studio (which I wont reveal the name of yet), has the source code to the final version of the PS2 release, right before it was pressed to disc. Many breakthroughs happened when I was there. By December 15th (The day I left), we already had network play up and running under new server code. Removing SNAP and the other network required plugins were not as hard as people made it out to be. We already had network up and running and we also had part of the team completely finished on remastered textures for both the OUTBREAK and BELOW FREEZING POINT chapters. The deadline for the game to go gold as part of our contract is May 2016. So its probably going to be revealed at E3 2016, which would make sense.

I feel this year is going to be a good year for Resident Evil. You will likely see the first announcements of Resident Evil Outbreak HD (or whatever the company ends up calling it), RE6 for modern consoles. I am speculating that you will also likely see the first footage of Resident Evil 2. My only reason to believe that, is because my boss was told that “2016 will be the year of remasters” but thats all I am going on for why. I can’t really be quoted on that. But for 100% sure, expect REOHD sometime this year. Probably around Fall.

Ooh, that’s intriguing. Outbreak HD with functional online would be great! Especially because I missed out on them the first time around. If this is all true, I know you wouldn’t want to divulge any sensitive information, but is it possible to get anymore details out of you? For example, what kinds of projects did this indie team work on previously, if any?
