First Gameplay of Funcom’s The Park released

Funcom (The Secret World, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey) has released the first gameplay of their upcoming survival horror game, The Park, aptly titled as it takes place in a theme park. The trailer also features members of the development team talking about what makes The Park standout from other games, with attention given toward its protagonist Lorraine, and what players can expect when they get their hands on it.

“For the last ten years, Funcom has been focused on making massively multiplayer online games, so ‘The Park’ is our first single-player experience in a long time,” says Creative Director Joel Bylos. “It has been an incredibly fun and rewarding process working on ‘The Park’. What initially started out as a prototype and a way for us to learn new development tools, has evolved into a short and intense psychological horror experience which we are all very excited to share with gamers out there.”

According to the team, The Park draws inspiration from games such as Gone Home, Dear Esther, and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Players take the role of a mother looking for her son in a nightmarish theme park with troubled history. Lorraine herself is not a role model of motherhood, having gotten in trouble for negligence in the past, but her quest to find her son Callum looks to be one that will redeem her. The Park releases later this month on PC.
