Gamescom 2016: Agony Makes Hell Scary Again in New Trailer (Update: Extended Trailer Released)

The first-person horror title Agony may be set in a familiar fiery┬álocation known to videogames, but I don’t think it’s ever been done this … horrifying.

The latest gameplay trailer for Agony shows off some areas within its setting Hell, and man is it gross. We’re given a look at a room adorned in bones, blood and moaning souls. As the protagonist proceeds, he or she is faced with a hallway lined in teeth. I actually let out a “what the fuck?” while watching this trailer.

The game is visually stunning. Its level and creature design are striking (barring some excessive breast physics). Everything is just so nightmarish. DOOM, eat your heart out. Hell hasn’t ever looked this good.

Agony is slated for a 2017 release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Update: A new extended trailer was released, you filthy sinners. See below.

That was creepy as, well, hell! I still really love Dante’s Inferno version of the circles of hell, but this looks really twisted – love it!

    • Best aspect about that game was the art direction. Appropriately f’ed up, imaginative.

I took a look at this once it was known as sacred agony asked about here actually but none of you knew about at the time.

There kickstarter failed aswell but seem it was resurrected as just Agony…Looking cool still in my eyes.

You are missing one thing: At first it was Agony, then changed to Sacred Agony and now it’s Agony back again čÖé

If you’re into this stuff, you should really read HELLSTEEL, now available on amazon. It has all of the action, horror, and gore you can handle.

Very cool. I gotta give them props on the amazing sound design. It adds a certain grind that helps the immersion.

Absolutely appalling…I love it. The disturbing and disgusting sound design, the dark and sexual undertones, and the environments feeling alive and in constant torture. This is byfar the best potrayals of hell I have ever seen.
