Xbox Helping Develop Gameplay for Hideo Kojima’s OD, Not Just Providing Technical Support

O.D.

As many already know, Kojima Productions is working on OD, a new horror game developed in collaboration with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios. The project aims to deliver a terrifying experience unlike anything seen before.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, discussed the involvement of Microsoft’s teams in the project. Their contribution, it seems, goes beyond simple technical support — Microsoft is working closely with Hideo Kojima on the gameplay development itself.

“When I spoke with Director Kojima about the new game, he shared some very bold ideas with me. He also said, ‘I want to make a really scary game,'” Spencer told Famitsu. He added:

Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios members are working closely together on both gameplay and technology, and when I saw the trailer at the 10th anniversary event, I was so happy at how high the quality was.

During the interview, Spencer was also asked if a release window for OD had been set. The Xbox head explained that no release date has been decided yet, mainly due to the Screen Actors Guild strike in 2023, which slowed down production.

“In fact, a specific date has not been set yet. Due to the Screen Actors Guild strike in 2023, it has been difficult to finalize a filming schedule, and the game’s development has been delayed. We are working hard on development, but a specific date has not yet been decided,” Spencer said.
